A investment property at Hobart has been sold for $1.2 million.

Located at 52 Melville Street, the 695 sqm property was originally built as a theatre and still retains many of its original features.

Dating back to 1896, the former theatre features imposing facades and high ceilings. Many of its heritage details are intact.

It is suitable for a number of uses and has a two-bedroom apartment on the first floor.

The property was offered through Knight Frank agent Hayden Peck.

It last changed hands for $750,000 in 2006, according to CoreLogic.

It has been used for a variety of retail purposes over the past 40 years.
