Leighton Holdings’ chief executive Marcelino Fernandez Verdes has become executive chairman.

The outgoing chairman Bob Humphris, who announced his retirement at the contracting group’s annual general meeting last month, will leave the company on Wednesday.

Fernandez Verdes became CEO of Leighton in March replacing the former CEO Hamish Tyrwhitt.

Russell Chenu, a former chief financial officer of James Hardie, and Trevor Gerber, a former group treasurer of Westfield Holdings, have joined Leighton’s board as non-executive directors.
