Adelaide's Davaar House, built for wine and spirit merchant William Johnston in 1876 at a £4000 cost, has been listed for sale.

It features 14 rooms, pantries, cellars, larder and bathrooms.

It was being restored as part of the $35 million apartment project on the corner of South Terrace and Hutt Street, August Towers.

The heritage listed building had most recently served as headquarters of the TPI Association.

The partially restored, two-storey mansion is among the properties being sold to recoup some of the $29 million debts owed by developer Salvatore “Sam” Sgherza.

The Advertiser newspaper reported that CEG Direct Securities had taken control of the August Towers apartment building.
