Australia’s best in building design were recognised at the 2015 National Building Design Awards with a 12-hectolitre microbrewery getting a key prize.

The brewer in Western Australia’s Northbridge was awarded the National Building Design of the Year.

The award, an initiative of the National Association of Building Designers, was sponsored by James Hardie Australia.

Hosted by interior design expert and editor of Vogue Living Australia, Neale Whitaker, more than 25 projects across Australia were awarded for their creative effort.

Designed by d4 Designs, Northbridge Brewing Company was lauded for creatively complementing the bustling activity of Northbridge Piazza and providing a family-friendly environment.

The result was a glasshouse where the sculptural quality of the micro-brewery becomes the focal point both inside and outside the building.

The projects were judged on their design solutions, sustainability, the relationship of internal and external spaces, utility, quality and balance of interior and exterior aesthetics.
