Penrith Panthers venture into retirement village project

The Penrith Panthers leagues club plans to develop about 100 acres worth of land adjacent to its licensed club facility.

It will start with construction of a retirement and aged care facility in its first stage with subsequent plans for construction of high-end apartments, retail and office space and potentially a new rugby league centre of excellence.

Panthers chief executive Warren Wilson told the Australian Financial Review he expected approvals in April with construction to begin by the end of the year.

The club will partner with Sydney-based Tulich Aged Care Services for the construction of a 108 unit retirement village complex and a 108 bed aged care facility, along with seven specialty retail stores.

"There's a shortage of good aged care facilities out here, so we thought it would be a good thing for our members," Wilson told the Australian Financial Review.

The Panthers were still seeking a joint-venture partner for the construction of 400 to 700 apartments.
