A new CBRE Asia Pacific Consumer Survey 2014 looked at the factors that make a shopping centre attractive to consumers.

The report found that 70% of survey respondents opt to purchase items that are not food items in a store, due to the experience.

Price, cleanliness, convenience and security were ranked highly be respondents, with very similar responses across age group and income group.

“Getting the basics of retail management right is of the utmost importance to ensuring the long term success of any shopping centre,” the report explains of the findings.

Strategic placement of signage and information counters, as well as well-trained customer relations staff, were recommended.
