A Chinese developer has paid $36 million for the former Matilda Bay Brewery in North Fremantle.

The light industrial site in the Perth suburb is a 2.9-hectare holding.

The 130 Stirling Highway site was a Ford factory before it was a brewery.

It is expected to hold between 350 and 400 apartments, as well as retail and commercial property, subject to council approval and design guidelines, Knight Frank’s WA managing director John Corbett suggested.

It previously sold at $2 million in 1988.
