International students head to University of Melbourne and UNSW

The University of Melbourne has the largest number of international students studying on campus, according to latest figures released by Australian Education International (AEI).

The total international student enrolments in Australia in the higher education sector dropped by 0.8% in 2013 to 216,298, or 18.8% of the total student population.

The AEI research figures revealed the University of Melbourne had 14,165 onshore international students in 2013, accounting for 27.1%.

The University of New South Wales ranked second with 13,123 onshore international students.

Next followed by Monash University with 12,271 onshore international students.

There were 410,925 international students from 193 countries studying on a student visa in Australia in 2013.
