Rental listings down in every state in past month: RP Data

New rental listings last month were down in every state of Australia compared with the previous month, according to RP Data.

Across Australia the number of new rental listings dropped from 45,365 in the four weeks ending September 9 to 34,591 in the four weeks ending October 7.

Proportionally, the most drastic drop was in the ACT, where the number of new rental listings dropped from 407 to 266. At the same time last year the number was 205.

This was followed by WA, where new listings dropped from 3,795 to 2,694. The figures are a drop on the same time last year, when there were 3,342 new listings.

Queensland dropped from 10,947 last month to 8,301. Last year it was at 12,454.

NSW dropped from 12,390 last month to 9,018. Last year it was at 11,560.

Victoria dropped from 13,059 last month to 10,380. Last year it was at 10,919.

South Australia dropped from 3,347 last month to 2,775. The figures are up from last year’s 2,546.

NT dropped from 514 last month to 441. Current figures are slightly up from last year’s 431.

Tasmania’s numbers dropped from 906 last month to 716, bringing it in line with last year’s 718.

The number of total advertised rental listings are down from last month in every state as well.

Across Australia, total rental listings fell from 93,820 last month to 77,737.

In terms of numbers, Victoria experienced the biggest drop, falling from 30,191 last month to 25,697.

Proportionally the biggest fall was in ACT falling from 895 last month to 662.

Year on year, total rental listings are down from 89,392 to 77,737 across Australia.
