Department store group David Jones endured a lacklustre six months of retail trading, reporting 20% drop in interim profits and a 6.7% drop in sales for the six months to January 29, 2012 compared with the same period in 2011.

The retailer occupies prime space in some of Australia’s biggest shopping centres, and its performance will be closely monitored by retail property investors and landlords.
