An island off Tasmania’s coast, Waterhouse Island, has been listed for sale.

It is located three kilometres off the state’s north-eastern tip, with flights chartered from nearby Bridport.

Around 1 km wide and 4.5 kms end to end, the 287 hectares has been listed at $5.5 million plus through Ray White.

Agent Ant Manton suggested 6000 islands surrounded Tasmania but only nine were freehold.

The vendors are four friends who after purchasing the island 45 years ago have used the holiday home island for grazing for sheep and deer.

The island comes with a three bedroom colonial house plus guest house.
