Tivoli House at 59 Tivoli Road, South Yarra passed in at $2.71 million at weekend auction, but sold later for $2.85 million.

Kay & Burton agent Grant Samuel secured the higher offer from the highest bidder.

The double-fronted, 1880s period home had a $2.6 million opening bid.

It sold for $431,000 in 1990.

CoreLogic RP Data puts the median house price at a record $1.19 million.
