Homes with helipads are a rarity in Sydney. Estate agent Anthony Walls at Max Walls International has one up for sale at Elanora Heights with a $6.5 million asking price for the two hectare holding.

It last sold in 1984 for $185,000 when bought by Laurie McIver and his widow, Paulette, who has a flying licence too. Surrounded by Garigal National Park, the property has views across the lagoon towards the Pacific Ocean from the two storey house with nine car garaging. But its special cache is the private heli-pad plus hangar.

Flying out of Hoxton Park, Laurie headed McIver Aviation with his flying school evening training Dick Smith a manouvre or two in fixed wing flying.

The 1980s house sits next to the Starship Enterprise-inspired 2008-built home that Peter Chedid, a lifelong fan of Star Trek, sold on Caladenia Close earlier this year for $8.4 million.

The last northern beaches hinterland sale with helipad was when former radio broadcaster Doug Mulray sold in 2010 at Cromer to miner Tony Haggarty for $8,275,000.
