Mehajer family's Canada Bay property sells at auction
The agent said the vendor for this Canada Bay house was “very desperate” — but didn’t say that a prior commitment at Cooma Jail was preventing him from being there.
Saturday’s auction was good news for disgraced developer Salim Mehajer, with the bayside property, part of his now imploding property empire, selling for $1,625,000.
The auction went without disruption, with the family and its financiers accepting the outcome.
CIA Real Estate Auburn agent Joe Salah took bids from four of the registered parties.
“I’m under instructions to sell for a very desperate vendor,” he advised in its public marketing.
It last traded at $1.4 million in 2015 with the family company, Mehajer Consolidated Pty Ltd, revealing controversial plans to build a striking three-storey home.
Approval for a two-storey home won’t lapse until October.
The auction was the third attempt in the past year to sell it off.
The Lyons Road West site with a rundown 1970s home on 470 square metres had passed in at $1.6 million at its unsuccessful auction last November with just two registered parties.
It had been withdrawn from its scheduled auction last April.
Mehajer’s own Lidcombe house remains registered in his name, with caveats taken by creditors.
He must remain at Cooma jail until eligible for parole in May.
