A piece of Box Hill real estate history, known as the Governor Bligh's Hunting Lodge, has come onto the market.
Located at Lot 906 Timbercrest Street, the property was built in 1870.
It has been maintained by descendants of the Terry family.
According to the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, it was used by the family for expeditions as part of the Sydney Hunt Club.
Henry Montgomery, a stonemason, is believed to have leased the property in the mid-19th century, and may have been commissioned by landowner Samuel Henry Terry to build the stone lodge.
Up until the 1970s it was also surrounded by a small moat.
The residence sits on a 2736 square metre block, with sprawling views of the surrounding suburbs and parklands.
Originally built entirely of sandstone and timber, the cottage is ordained with Gothic Revival architecture and features three bathrooms, timber flooring, an open fireplace, and a large loft space.
A new slate roof and galvanised guttering was installed September 2017.
Box Hill's median house price is $829,000.
