Futuristic styled apartment complex, The Icon, set to land in St Kilda

A futuristic looking apartment complex in St Kilda is the latest collaboration between Pace Development Group and Jackson Clements Burrows architects.

Located on St Kilda Road, The Icon will comprise of a series of six askew cubes sitting atop of each other, housing 118 apartments across 17 levels.

“The artwork ceoncept for the façade intends to address a visual coherency by directly referencing the existing natural topography and coloration of St Kilda,” says Matthew Johnson of Jackson Clements Burrows.

“Each level is depicted in different colour hues variations from earth to sky, which cross references the nature of the geographical and environmental stratums.

“This flux of seasonal change is portrayed through subtle tonal gradation,” says Johnson.

The development is currently 60% sold.

Apartments will feature Miele appliances and Italiana stone bench tops and large balconies with views to Arthurs Seat and the Dandenong Ranges.

Residents of The Icon will have access to the guest lounge, which features a suspended fireplace, wine lockers and a Teppanyaki BBQ deck.

One-bedroom apartments range in size from 46 square metres and start from $395,000.

Two-bedroom apartments range in size from 64 square metres and start from $535,000.

Three-bedroom apartments are 94 square metres and start from $660,000.

“We believe this new residential building will set an exemplar architectural and urban design outcome for an emerging precinct that will be both an exciting and entertaining addition to St Kilda Junction,” says Tim Jackson director of Jackson Clements Burrows.

“It is our belief that The Icon will engage with the surrounding context in a new and positive way and set a pattern of expectation that is deserving of this important intersection both within the context of Melbourne’s history and future development,” says Jackson.

The proposed plans were initially rejected by the local Port Phillip Council, but the rejection was over-ridden by the Victorian Civil and Administrative tribunal.

Jackson Clements Burrows is also behind the design of Carlton's Upper House.

The median unit price in St Kilda is $450,000, a 15.4% change in five years, according to RP Data.
