Design will be the focus of developer Coronation Property’s projects in Liverpool and Parramatta in Sydney, resulting from its collaboration with international designers and architects.

Jamie Durie’s firm Durie Design will deliver the landscape masterplan at The Paper Mill – an 882-apartment development across four buildings in Liverpool – with the company’s work to include a makeover of the Georges River and surrounding foreshore.

In Parramatta, the design firm will be responsible for the landscape elements at the 55-storey mixed-use tower 8 Phillip Street.

Durie’s accomplishments include commercial projects all over the world, such as the Singapore Bay foreshore, Sheraton Salobre Resort Spain, Albarari in Dubai and Australia’s own Hayman Island Resort.

Durie won awards including the PCA Award for Best Residential Development in Australia and a Gold Medal at London’s Chelsea Flower Show.

“Our design concepts aim to create a sense of community, especially through the clever planning of gardens and green spaces,” said Durie.

“As such, we’re interested in delivering interactive areas where people can dine, BBQ, sunbake and play, with our landscaping designed to give residents a sense of belonging and what we call ‘destination design’.”

Durie said the revitalisation of the riverfront precinct at The Paper Mill was a perfect example of urban transformation.

“This changes the dynamic of urban planning in Liverpool by truly turning the focus back onto the previously disused riverbank. The Paper Mill development is the first to take this approach in Liverpool and I can’t wait to see its progress, because it will really set the benchmark for urban renewal projects in the area.”

Durie said the landscaping will try and maximise the connection to the water at the Paper Mill, where residents can enjoy views of the Georges River.

Meanwhile, at Parramatta’s 8 Phillip Street, Durie said he plans to apply his ‘transterior’ philosophy, which involves creating a seamless transition between interior and exterior spaces.

“We’ll be implementing this quintessentially Australian style of living in the tower’s entrance, rooftop bar, pool terrace and streetscape,” said Durie.

The rooftop garden will feature native Australian species, planted to create an atmosphere of “secret garden oasis with intimate gathering spaces,” he added.

Coronation Property managing director Joseph Nahas said they wanted to bring the very best in design to Western Sydney.

“We’re proud to be transforming the urban landscape of Western Sydney, and we believe this is a great opportunity for the private sector to give back to the local community by providing intelligent and integrated public domain and amenity,” said Nahas.
