Making Illawarra housing more affordable

Making Illawarra housing more affordable

Some 200 affordable housing properties will be developed in the Illawarra suburbs of Berkley and Shellharbour as part of a joint venture between Hyperbuild and BuyAssist Australia, a subsidiary of the National Affordable Housing Consortium (NAHC).

Hyperbuild will develop town houses made from Cross Laminated Timber and will then make them available to BuyAssist Australia eligible buyers who do not have a deposit.

BuyAssist Australia will provide a minimum 20 per ent deposit to the eligible purchases under a regulated loan agreement, with purchasers assisted to obtain a loan for the balance. The deposit is not required to be repaid until after the property is sold or no longer occupied by the owner.

The building process with CLT works by large timber panels craned into place, forming the overall structure.
