Large contemporary private residences in South Yarra have been offered for sale in the newly released development The Millswyn.

The new residences will be built in the grounds of Millswyn Court, an historic Victorian Italianate mansion built in 1886 for one of South Yarra’s original settlers, James Gatehouse.

In recent decades Millswyn Court has been used as the Albany boutique hotel and a 1960s motel-style three-storey construction which recently close to be demolished to build the new residences.

The project has been designed by architect Rob Mills to be set in manicured gardens designed by landscape architect Paul Bangay.

Internal floor plans range from 207 to 404 square metres.

The eight large ground and first level residences have private outdoor living areas of 24 to 96 square metres.

On the top level the two penthouses have rooftop terraces of 145 and 207 square metres with outdoor kitchen and entertainment space; one includes a pool.

Finishes befit both the location and design with luxury Italian marble wrapping around island benches, kitchen benchtops and splashbacks with bathroom walls, floors and vanities in luxury Italian marble.

French grey American oak floorboards will flow through living areas with pure wool bedroom carpets.

Two pac joinery has bronzed accents and the Miele kitchen appliances include two ovens, induction cooktop and integrated refrigerator, freezer and dishwasher with a Qasair rangehood.

It has been listed by Marshall White agents Marcus Chiminello and Nicole French by the Pask Group with completion anticipated in 2018. The 2150 sqm site last sold at $16.4 million in 2014 by entreprenuer Paul Holyoake who paid $13.7 million in 2012 for the corner holding on Millswyn Street and Toorak Road.
