Apartments dominate recent rental properties in Surfers Paradise: rent.com.au's top searched list

Renowned for being the holiday destination, Surfers Paradise in Queensland, postcode 4217, was sitting high on the list of most searched suburbs for rentals in 2015, compiled by rent.com.au

The median rent for all rental properties advertised in Surfers Paradise within the last 30 days was $375 per week, down 1.32% or $5 than the last quarter and more affordable than the $410 median rent in surrounding suburbs.

The range was wide, with $220 for a one-bedroom dwelling as the least and $1,100 for a four-bedroom place.

The average days on market for all rental properties advertised in Surfers Paradise within the last 90 days was 23 days, compared with 25 days for the surrounding suburbs of Southport, Bundall, Main Beach, Broadbeach, Broadbeach Waters and Gold Coast.

The days on the market also fell from the preceding quarter by nine days.

There were 143 rental properties advertised in Surfers Paradise within the last 30 days, of which 137 were apartments (around 96 percent), while only six houses were up for rent. 

This contrasts with the 73 percent apartments and about 27 percent houses advertised in the last 30 days in surrounding suburbs.

There are a total of 4,624 rental properties in Surfers Paradise, making up 54% of all properties in the area, according to ABS census data 2011. 

Three-fourths of all properties in the suburb are apartments, with the rest houses, the data shows.

Property Observer went looking for dwellings in the suburb around the median price advertised recently on rent.com.au and found these:

1. A fully-furnished one-bedroom apartment at 3400 Gold Coast Highway (above) is available for $400 a week.

2. A two-bedroom unfurnished apartment at 201-3 Oak Avenue (above) is up for rent at $350 per week.

The ASX-listed Rent.com.au Ltd achieved a record 615,405 unique visitors to its website in January, followed by more than 610,000 unique visitors in February.

Landlords are able to list their property for free in a limited time offer on rent.com.au.
