A historic family mansion at Fulham has been sold for $2.5 million.

The property was offered for sale for the first time since it was built 135 years ago.

The mid-Victorian sandstone villa at 12-14 Weetunga Street, Adelaide and an adjoining dwelling, were sold through Ray White Henley Beach.

The buyer plans to extend the 5113sqm home and open it to the public for functions and tours.

“The sellers are delighted that this historic, state heritage home, which was built by Samuel White, will continue to be treasured”, said Ray White's Patrick O’Flaherty.

Over three generations of the White family have lived in the home, which took three years to build.

The property included a six bedroom villa with three bathrooms, and a detached museum with attached storage and greenhouse.

There is also the three-bedroom mid-1980s built home on the site adjoining the original villa.
