Sydney's weekend clearance rate has headed even higher to 89%.

On busy weekends during the Autumn selling season, the auction success rate has incrementally risen to regular new record levels.

And APM put Melbourne at 82%.

A home in Sydney's Burwood was the top sale at $3.45 million through Raine & Horne agent Guy Lorello who was giving $2.6 millii plus guidance.

The five bedroom 13 Ethel Street offering sits on an elevated 854 square metre complete with a north facing rear garden and BBQ gazebo plus a huge three-car garage with internal access.

The block cost $520,000 in 1998, with the house built at least 12 years ago.

In Melbourne it was an unrenovated knockdown on Albert Park's exclusive St Vincent Place.

April's overall auction clearance rate of 83.6 percent was an all-time monthly high for Sydney just ahead of the previous record set in March this year of 82.8 percent.

Only the Melbourne market of winter 2001 recorded higher auction clearance rates than Sydney is currently experiencing - and only just, APM senior economist Dr Andrew Wilson said.

Sydney’s red hot auction market took a rest over ANZAC Day last weekend following weeks of recording breaking results which had peaked at 88%.

The inner west hosted the most number of auctions this weekend in Sydney with 99 followed by the city and east and the upper north shore each with 91, the south 88, and the lower north 62.

The most popular Sydney suburb for auctions was Lane Cove North with 12 followed by Mosman and Epping each with 11.
