Sydney unit prices dearer than houses in all other capital cities: CoreLogic RP Data

The $588,000 Sydney median unit price is dearer than the house median in seven other capital cities, according to RP Data.

It is cheaper to buy a median house in Melbourne Brisbane, Perth, Canberra, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth, according to the latest CoreLogic RP Data report, than an apartment in Sydney. 

The nearest is Canberra where houses have a $575,000 median price.

CoreLogic put the Sydney house median at $780,000, after a 1.6% jump during January. There was an overall 1.4% increase in January for all dwellings to a $680,000 median.

Despite a 2.7 per cent surge in January, Melbourne dwelling values rose just 0.2 per cent in February, according to the CoreLogic RP Data figures.

Adelaide prices rose 0.2 per cent in January, with Canberra’s up by 1.3 per cent and Darwin up 0.9%.

But Perth, Brisbane and Hobart fell, down 2.2%, 0.5% and 0.9% respectively.
