A ground floor 56-square-metre Darlinghurst unit fetched $650,000 ahead of its recent auction.

With high ceilings and ornate cornices, the 2/265 Palmer Street offering had initial $580,000 plus hopes.

It was at the cheaper end of Darlinghurst's median price for two bedroom units.

The classic art deco apartment is tenanted for $655 a week until early 2015, so the BresicWhitney sale reflected a 5.2% yield.

The stone kitchen has stainless steel Smeg appliances and the updated bathroom has travertine floors.

The master bedroom has plantation shutters and a good-sized balcony leads off the lounge.

Its levies were $1,152 per quarter.
