Known to many local children as the ''Addams Family haunted house'', the Paddington home, Verulam has been listed for the first time since the 1920s.

The three-level Federation Queen Anne-styled offering was turned into a ''gentleman's residence'' in 1873 having previously been a farmhouse.

Set on its 393 square metre Moore Park Road block, Verulam has a price guide of $2.5 million through agent Louise Snowden of Raine & Horne Double Bay.

There were initial $2 million plus indications for the house set opposite the SCG and Allianz Stadium.

The 284 Moore Park Road property comes with rear stables space.

Verulam, named after an ancient town in the south of Roman-occupied Britain, has been listed for 11 September auction following the death of 98 year old Jacqueline Mary Schmidt, who once had a Nambucca district retreat at Station Street, Eungai Rail.
