O'Malley, Canberra home wins HIA 2013 kitchen of the year

With its New York marble a striking feature, a kitchen in the Canberra suburb of O'Malley - designed by Creative Building Services, Archertec Interiors and OFM Direct has won the national HIA 2013 kitchen of the year.

It also won the best kitchen last year in the $25,000-plus category, along with the best Canberra home over $1 million in the 2012 ACT Master Builders and Boral Excellence in Building Awards.

It sits on a 2200-square-metre steep site with northern views over Canberra.

What the judges said:

The materials in this kitchen were carefully selected to work in with each other, with outstanding results. The visual impact extends to the ceiling with the timber bulkhead above the island bench. The bulkhead is perfectly installed and cleverly contains the rangehood ducting and strip lighting.

The 2013 HIA Australian Kitchen award, partnered by The Laminex Group, recognises quality workmanship in the manufacture and installation of a single residential kitchen.
