Hampton Californian bungalow feeling Japanese on tonight's Grand Designs

The second episode of the latest Grand Designs Australia airs tonight with a Californian bungalow being replaced by a sculptural, Japanese style all-timber house.

Hosted by Peter Maddison, Grand Designs Australia looks at the residential project in the Melbourne suburb of Hampton.

The elaborate design project is undertaken by self-builders Jenny and Brett. The four-bedroom home gets a wrap-around lap pool with decking that hugs the back of house.

Its master bedroom is located on the second floor.

The origami-influenced structure is clad in spotted gum.

Their dedication ensures the challenging rebuild triumphs despite the challenges.

In last week's episode showed a couple in Victoria’s Mansfield turn their vision of an indoor/outdoor lifestyle into a home.

Grand Designs Australia airs on the Lifestyle channel at 8:30pm.
