After looking at what that sum will get you around the world, Property Observer returns home to see what Sydney's median house price can purchase you elsewhere in Australia.

According to RP Data, the median sale price for a Sydney house was $713,000 in the last quarter.

Victoria: 7 Brown Street, Preston

This art deco era home is located in Preston, nine kilometres north of the Melbourne CBD. The three bedroom house has one central bathroom and another separate powder room in addition to a formal dining area, living room and timber cabinet kitchen.

This Preston home’s substantially sized backyard also includes a covered outdoor entertaining area and separate studio and workshop.

The median house price in Preston is $622,000, according to RP Data.

Vendors are expecting between $660,000 and $720,000.

The Norrie Avenue home comes with two large bathrooms, formal and casual living rooms, a home theatre, a kitchen with walk in pantry and a three car garage. The 836 square metre land plot also houses a pool.

This home is expecting $695,000 to $725,000.

With views to the Brindabella mountains, the home also has three separate living spaces and two bathrooms, one of which features a spa.

The single storey home is listed at $699,000 plus.

The median house sale price in Rockyview is $562,500.

This home, set on 847 square metres, was last sold for $500,000 in 2011.
