Ultimo is an inner suburb of Sydney located just south of the CBD. Once a manufacturing district, Ultimo is now home to a mix of residential, commercial and cultural uses.
The suburb has a lively street life with many cafes and restaurants and is home to several universities including the University of Technology Sydney.
The area underwent significant redevelopment in the 1990s and 2000s, with many new high-rise apartment buildings being constructed.
This has led to increasing densities and a change in demographics, with more young people and students moving into the area.
Despite its proximity to the CBD, Ultimo has retained much of its character as a working-class suburb, and is popular with artists and students because of its affordability and diversity.
