Taringa is a suburb of inner Brisbane, located just 4 kilometers from the CBD. Originally a farming community, Taringa began to be developed as a residential suburb in the late 1940s. It features many large homes on spacious lots, and has been described as "leafy" and "upscale".
The majority of Taringa's residents are professionals or retirees, and the area has a strong sense of community spirit. There are several parks and recreational areas in Taringa, including Boggo Road Gaol Park (formerly known as Boggo Road Recreation Ground), which was once the site of Queensland's only maximum security prison.
Taringa is home to several schools, including St Laurence's College (an all-boys Catholic school) and Somerville House (an all-girls private school). It also has its own railway station on the Beenleigh line.
