Doncaster East is an eastern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. It is located 16 kilometers east from the Melbourne CBD and is part of the City of Manningham. Doncaster East is a well-established area, with many large homes on sizeable blocks. The suburb has a mix of residential and commercial areas.
The first inhabitants of the Doncaster East area were the Wurundjeri people, who spoke the Woiwurrung language. The name "Doncaster" is thought to be derived from a British town called Doncaster in Yorkshire.
The first Europeans to settle in the area were pastoralists in the mid-19th century. In 1853, a land grant was made to James Robinson, who named his property "Doncaster". A small township developed around Robinson's property, which became known as "Doncaster Village".
The population of Doncasters East grew rapidly during the 20th century, and it became an established suburb by the end of that century.
