Bahrs Scrub is a southern suburb of Brisbane, located in the Australian state of Queensland. The suburb is situated approximately 20 kilometres south-east of the Brisbane central business district. It was named after the Bahrs family, early settlers in the area.
The first inhabitants of Bahrs Scrub were the Jagera and Turrbal people who lived along the nearby creeks. The first European to visit the area was explorer John Oxley in 1823. He noted that there were "grass trees" (Xanthorrhoea) growing in the area, and so it was named Bahrs Scrub after the German word for grass tree, Baumheide.
Development of Bahrs Scrub began in earnest in the late 1950s, with most houses being constructed during the 1960s and 1970s. Today, Bahrs Scrub is a relatively large suburb, comprising over 1,000 homes.
