LIMINAL: Melbourne’s trendy new venue could be the CBD’s next best meeting spot

LIMINAL: Melbourne’s trendy new venue could be the CBD’s next best meeting spot

In December last year, hospitality giants The Mulberry Group, sold their Instagram-famed cafes Top Paddock, Kettle Black and Higher Ground to begin an exciting new venture. Within six months, they opened a brand new multi-use hospitality venue called Liminal. The venue operates in a mixed-use fashion, partially as a café, a wine store, an event space and as a marketplace – offering flexibility to provide a unique range of events for CBD workers in a premium location.

Situated adjacent to Melbourne’s iconic T&G Building on the ground floor of 161 Collins St, Liminal has been designed in a way which reimagines what a traditional foyer café can offer. Long arced couches, plush armchairs and boardroom style tables build a spacious yet welcoming environement for people to connect and relax. Design studio The Stella Collective has chosen features which would provide office-style practicality, paired with soft, luxe textures to create a sense of calm respite.

Executive Chef Martin Webster (Jackalope, Montalto) has been employed to curate a thoughtful day menu from nourishing breakfasts to hearty lunches – including a rotisserie chicken bar and a great takeaway selection.

“They are a little bit fun, pretty simple and super delicious. We’ll be changing them regularly depending on what produce comes through from the market.”

- Martin Webster, Executive Chef

The venue has the worker in mind, with modern elegant furnishings, and ample space perfect for lunch meetings and corporate events. Almost 200 wines will be available for customers to enjoy over lunch, for wine tastings or to purchase; a boutique store will sell essentials (bread, milk, flowers) and an open kitchen will act as a demonstration zone for live cooking tutorials.
