Construction Engineering snares Shayher Group's next Pentridge build

Construction works will once more resonate within the walls of Pentridge, as developer Shayher Group begins the next stage of the precinct's transformation.

Builder Construction Engineering will now take on the job of delivering Pentridge Coburg's retail hub building. Breaking ground over the weekend, construction of the retail, cinema and supermarket development will be completed by late 2019.

Spread over a 6,000 square metre site, the hub will be headlined by a 15-screen Palace Cinemas complex.

Construction Engineering's delivery of the new hub will signify Shayher Group's push into the next phase of the 167-year-old former prison's regeneration.

Invariably Shayher Group would have liked to have been eyeing off the commencement to another of their planned buildings within what will become a major mixed-use precinct. An appeal is in process against Moreland City Council's refusal of a mixed-use tower fronting Champ Street which would have amalgamated itself with the former B Division cell block.

Designed by Cox Architecture, the tower includes private apartments and 114 short stay suites.

After years of planning and the delivery of two modest residential buildings, Shayher Group has pulled the trigger on the new retail hub building in order to provide Pentridge Coburg with some impetus.

In a statement, Shayher Group spokesperson Anthony Goh explained that for the project's future tenants such as Palace Cinemas, Zero95 Wood Fire Pizza Bar and Adina Apartment Hotel Pentridge, the construction commencement marks the beginning of Pentridge Coburg's transition into a place for the local community to experience and enjoy.

TFE Hotels have committed the Adina brand to Pentridge Coburg, with the hotel tied into the proposal spanning B Division and the adjacent Cox Architecture tower.

Shayher Group is expecting the new retail hub will act as a catalyst for the local economy whilst also turning the area into the next inner-city hotspot.
