Designed by <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/architects/bayley-ward">Bayley Ward</a>, The Carlile draws inspiration from the adjacent Art Deco architecture.&nbsp;

"A restrained palette of textured, coloured concrete and fine metalwork completes the composition, establishing a sensitive and tactile edifice that is unabashedly contemporary," Bayley Ward said.

"The two heritage buildings are retained, restored, and sensitively integrated into the development providing boutique retail tenancies fronting High Street."

A discreet vine-covered archway serves as the pedestrian entry to the residences, landscaped by <a href="https://www.urban.com.au/landscape-architect/acre">Acre</a>.

Crafted to command the streetscape whilst honouring its esteemed location, the building features a bold and engaging facade design, with clean lines and robust materials juxtaposing with the vibrant greenery of the landscape.

To the middle level, the building is softened by fluid curves, imbuing a sculptural quality that is only enhanced by cascading vines, while expansive glazing allows abundant natural light into the homes whilst allowing for a connection to the landscaping and surrounding views.

“A composition of contemporary form, enduring materiality and generous scale, the architecture of Serpells Place has been born out of a commitment to excellence.” Kavellaris said.

Renowned for its rolling hills, abundant landscaping and mature trees,&nbsp;Kavellaris drew great inspiration from the location of Serpells Place.

"Serpells Road is one of the most esteemed streets in Templestowe. It’s wide, filled with trees and has a beautiful link to the past, lined by large acreage properties," he said.

"We took elements of the area and then metaphorically put them together to create something that is dynamic and engaging. There’s a lot of fluid forms and a nice combination of organic and industrial materials. There’s also beautiful facade articulation, with three layered planes that present individual design moments to create one unified gesture."

"Also, every residence is huge – they’re essentially home-style residences,"&nbsp;Kavellaris added.

Large openings create a physical connection to the outdoors, while the expansive terraces, which adjoin to each of the homes, further connect Serpells Place to its surrounds.&nbsp;

"There’s also visual connections from living spaces, which look out to the landscaping and surrounding views. And then we have large light courts that allow sunlight and ventilation in through two sides of the residences, which is really quite rare," Kavellaris said.

Through envisioning the interiors and exteriors as a combined concept, the architecture seen from the streetscape is transported inside.&nbsp;

"Whenever we design a building, there’s a language we explore on the outside, and then we pick up on these cues internally. It might be in the materials, the textures, or a form. The idea is that as you walk in, there’s a language and a story that unfolds in a linear way."

Whilst designing the interiors, KUD took cues from the facade to create a seamless, free flowing transition between in and out. Favouring soft textures, natural materials and cool tones, the finishes palette has been carefully curated to cultivate a rich and harmonious sensory experience, enhanced by plentiful natural light.

The vibrant heritage suburb of Armadale will soon welcome a new addition to it's streets.&nbsp;

Renowned construction company Cobild has been appointed to bring Hewson's vision to life, with The Carlile set to deliver of just nine apartments to&nbsp;929-933 High Street.

With an aim to create a harmonious juxtaposition between the heritage retail offerings of the suburb and the modern apartment building, Hewson enagged the architects at Bayley Ward to design the homes, with landscape architects Acre on board to tie the development to the natural environment.&nbsp;

The Carlile boasts a collection of luxury three and four-bedroom residences, including two full floor penthouses with direct lift access and private garages and a north-facing, ground floor apartment with its own private swimming pool.&nbsp;

Each apartment has been designed with a focus on functionality and elegance, with the oversized kitchens equipped with top-of-the-line VZUG appliances, while the hotel-style ensuites offer a touch of indulgence throughout.

“The soft curves of this building take their cue from an art deco neighbour; the sculptural form serving as an elegant backdrop to the vibrancy of cafes and bars at street level," Bayley Ward said.

"A restrained palette of textured, coloured concrete and fine metalwork completes the composition, establishing a sensitive and tactile edifice that is unabashedly contemporary.

"The two heritage buildings are retained, restored, and sensitively integrated into the development providing boutique retail tenancies fronting High Street. The space between them reveals a super- discrete entrance to the extraordinary dwellings above, an idea appropriated from our experience in Europe.”

Following an open plan design, the living spaces have been designed to seamlessly connect to generously proportioned balconies, offering residents uninterrupted CBD views in addition to an abundance of natural light. The apartments also incorporate smart home technology, further elevating the living experience.

With nature and landscaping a key focus at The Carlile, Acre sought to begin the connection from the get go, with the pedestrian entry to the residences through a discreet vine covered archway.&nbsp;

“The landscape character within The Carlile helps to connect the building to the surrounding neighbourhood and existing heritage building within the site, with a mix of evergreen and deciduous plants to create all year softness and seasonal change," Acre said.&nbsp;

"Within the café courtyard, we have included a feature deciduous tree and an open aspect to the street, giving character to the street presence of the property, and creating layered seasonal colour and texture."

With a builder now appointed, construction on Hewson's project is expected to begin in the coming months. Pontem are handling the sales and marketing of The Carlile, with prices for a three-bedder beginning from&nbsp;$3.65 million.&nbsp;
