The National Gallery of Victoria's Clemenger BBDO Auditorium is set to host the inaugural Housing Futures forum which is designed to gather a select group of industry professionals in order to explore/speculate on the future or residential architecture.

Covering the gamut of living options from detached through to high density living, and everything in between such as aged, multigenerational and student housing, the event is set for Friday the 31st of July.

Spanning the entire day, Housing Futures will feature both international and local keynote speakers, interspersed with panel discussions where the audience is encouraged to join the deliberations.

Keynote addresses

Anchoring the event will be four keynote addresses, with topics and speakers outlined below:

Audience input welcome

Dual hour long discussion periods are slated which will feature panels consisting of both keynote speakers and invited panel members. During the discussions the audience is welcome to provide opinion and input of the matters under discussion.

Eli Giannini (Director at MGS Architects) along with Marcus Foth (Founder and Director at Urban Informatics Research Lab) will team with Paul Donegan and Philip Thalis to deliver the first discussion period. Shelley Penn (Director, Shelley Penn Architect) and Ben Hewett (Director, Strategic Services NSW GAO) will join Charles Renfro and Kerstin Thompson for the second moderated panel discussion.

Mark Baljak

Mark Baljak was a co-founder of Urban.com.au. He passed away on Thursday 8th of November 2018 after a battle with cancer. He was 37. Mark was a keen traveller, having visited all six permanently-inhabited continents and had a love of craft beer. One of his biggest passions was observing the change that has occurred in Melbourne over the past two decades. In that time he built an enormous library of photos, all taken by him, which tracked the progress of construction on building sites from across metropolitan Melbourne.
