Well I was surprised: SOS submission to Melbourne Planning Strategy
My earliest memories of Save Our Suburbs were in the Kennett era where many middle ring suburbs were seeing density increases via knocking down existing houses, sub-dividing and throwing 2-3 units up on each block. Although vague, the memories were of people outraged that others dared to change their idyllic suburban dream.
The middle and outer rings in the East, if memory serves correctly, were the hotspots - Camberwell, Surrey Hills, Box Hill, Doncaster, Nunawading, Mitcham, Knox, Ringwood, Boronia and Ferntree Gully and in the past 10 years I can't actually recall SOS popping up all that much in the mainstream press whenever Fairfax or News Ltd ran a development-related story.
So it was with surprise when I came across their submission to the Melbourne Planning Strategy. Outrage - not so much? Contempt for any government process still? Yep.
